Baize history

The baize has its developed structure long ago (already from prosaic "parables" of legendary Ancient Greek fabulist Ezop - 6 centuries BC), traditional circle of images, motives, plots. Ezop's language sometimes called as an implication of fiction. Fable are the stories which characters, along with people (to be more exact - schematic figures of people), are animals, plants, the inanimate objects representing certain ideas and human characters. The story, as a rule, is accompanied by directly formulated aphoristic moralistic conclusion in the beginning or in the end of the work that gives allegorical sounding to the narration. Comedy and satire - are the integral features of the fable. The known fable authors are: Ezop, Barbius, Fedr, Aviano, Lafonten, Ivan Krylov. Except antique sources, the baize experienced the influence of Indian «Panchatatra» («Five books», 3 centuries BC).

The baize in the Ukrainian literature of 18-19 centuries

Baize genre has an old and rich tradition in the world, and, in particular, in Ukrainian literature. Samples of fables happened in school rethorics of Mitrofan Dovgalevsky, Feofan Prokopovich, Georgiy Konissky. Baizes were used in "sermons" of Ioaniky Galyatovsky and Antoniy Radivilovsky. Grigory Skovoroda in his «Kharkiv Fables» (1753-1785) layed foundation to the new literary baize in Ukraine. In the first decades of 19 century in the days of new national literature  formation the baize was one of dominating genres which considerably promoted democratisation of literary process. Petro Gulak-Artemovsky, Levko Borovikovsky and Evgen Grebinka enriched the fable genre structurally and thematically, filled with new vital realities and national colour. Genre blossoming in the Ukrainian literature is connected with Leonid Glebov's name. Ivan Franko, Boris Grinchenko also addressed to baize.

The baize survived certain evolution. Except subject fables, there were baizes-introductions ("Liliputians"), and also fables-epigrams, fables-jokes, baizes-parodies etc.
