The Monument to Kyiv founders - Kyiv

The monument to founders of Kyiv was erected on the quay of Dnepro in spring 1982. Within the limits of preparation for 1500 anniversary of Kyiv on Dnepro bank the boat overlooked - a sculptural monument to Kyiv founders, brothers Kyi, Schek, Khoryv, and their sister Lybid.

According to the ancient legend Kyiv was founded by three brothers Kyi, Schek, Khoryv and their sister Lybid. They were amazed by the beauty of Dneprovsky hills, and stayed in order to lodge there, they named the city after the eldest brother Kyi.

According to the legends reflected in Russian annals of XI-XII centuries Kyi, Schek, Khoryv, and their sister Lybid - were the princes in breeding association of Polans who were the founders of three settlements, which later made Kyiv city.
